Ceremony at Jesuit Church Vienna

The Jesuit Church – also known as University Church – is a marvellous baroque expression of Christian faith. Seventy years after its consecration in 1631 it was the Jesuit architect, sculptor and painter Andrea Pozzo SJ who gave the church the rich appearance it has to this day. The church is dedicated to the assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven.

The Jesuits – officially known as the Society of Jesus – are an international group of priests and brothers in the Catholic Church. The order was founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola and his companions in the 16th century. Especially because of its numerous educational institutions the Society of Jesus has been an influential force in history.

There are several underground parking garages around the Jesuit Church. The closest one is the BOE Garage Cobdengasse, which you can best reach from StubenringHowever, you also might want to consider to park at Park Hyatt directly and walk to the ceremony. The Garage am Hof is directly in front of the hotel with plenty of space. If you are lucky, you can also find a free spot on the street. Public parking is free on weekends with some restrictions in certain sections – so watch out for street signs in the area you park.

The closest metro station is Stubentor, which can be reached taking the U3 line. Alternatively, you can take the U1 or U4 to Schwedenplatz. These 3 lines cover most of Vienna, however, if you would like to see some of Vienna’s historic buildings you can also take the tram.

If you are staying at Park Hyatt, we would recommend you to walk to the ceremony. It takes about 10 minutes and you will walk through some of the most beautiful parts of the city. On your way you should pass the St. Stephan’s Cathedral and some great historical monuments of the first district.
